I remember sitting in Greg Maguire’s workshop at the Belfast Media Festival a few years ago and being in awe of his VFX Reel. This guy had worked on some serious films and I was inspired from the first frame. One morning, I checked the company’s Facebook page and nearly spat coffee on my MBP when I saw that Greg had made contact. He was interested in working with me on a promotional video for his new exciting app called ‘Fairy Magic’. The team at inlifesize had worked their socks off getting the app ready so I could only oblige in helping them with a visual representation for their pitch to Apple.
Sometimes having a great concept on paper can prove a challenge on the ground and finding direct able young actors is a challenge in itself. However, at the same time, I was half way through prep work on a music video for The Jepettos and I remember that the lead singers had told me that they had a confident daughter who would be perfect. So, I trusted their judgement and gave them some homework! After numerous failed launches of the production due to poor weather conditions we managed to find a window of opportunity and moved to Belvoir Forest Park in Belfast. This place holds a mixture of emotions for me since the demanding ‘Desecration’ production last year. But it was great to be out of the studio and getting my hands dirty with a few good guys at the same time.

Once the rough cut was approved, it was then sent off to the VFX artists to add their magic to the piece. After a preview at Factory Pictures I was very excited and impressed with everybody’s individual work and effort. The video was enhanced greatly and I was very happy with the final version.
